Faithful in the Waiting
Scripture
“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?” Matthew 24:45 KJV
Devotion
Waiting can be one of the most difficult parts of the spiritual life. People often think that readiness for Christ’s return means constantly watching the sky or trying to understand prophetic timelines. But when Jesus spoke about readiness, He described something very different. He spoke about faithfulness. In Matthew 24, Jesus told the story of a servant whose master left him in charge of the household while he was away. The servant’s responsibility was simple. Continue doing what the master had asked him to do. When the master returned, the servant who had remained faithful would be blessed. This story shows what readiness actually looks like. It is not panic. It is not speculation. It is steady faithfulness. Faithful waiting means continuing to live the life God has called you to live. It means loving people well, serving where God has placed you, and remaining obedient even when the waiting feels long. The servant who is faithful does not stop caring simply because the master has not yet returned. Instead, he continues doing what is right because his loyalty is real. This is how believers are called to live while waiting for Christ. Readiness is not proven in a single moment. It is revealed through a life that continues to remain faithful over time.
Reflection
How do you usually respond during seasons of waiting in your life? What does faithfulness look like in the place where God has currently positioned you?
Extended Insight
In Matthew 24, Jesus connected His teaching about His return with the parable of the faithful servant. The emphasis of the parable is not on predicting the master’s return but on continuing to live faithfully while waiting. The faithful servant remains committed to his responsibilities because he understands that the master will eventually return. This reflects the Christian life. Believers are entrusted with the work of living faithfully in the world until Christ returns. Faithfulness includes obedience, love for others, integrity, and devotion to God. These daily acts of faithfulness demonstrate a heart that is truly prepared.
Prayer
Father, help me remain faithful while I wait for the return of Christ. Teach me to live each day with obedience, love, and devotion to You. Strengthen my heart so that I continue doing what You have called me to do, even during long seasons of waiting. May my life reflect a faith that remains steady and faithful. Amen.
