God Is Working While You Wait

Scripture
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 KJV

Devotion

Waiting can feel like nothing is happening.

You pray. You hope. You look for signs that something is moving forward, yet the situation appears unchanged. Days turn into weeks, and sometimes weeks turn into months. In those moments it can begin to feel like life has paused.

But waiting with God is never empty.

While you are waiting, God is working.

Much of God’s work happens in places we cannot immediately see. He prepares circumstances. He shapes hearts. He opens and closes doors in ways that become clear only later. What looks like stillness on the surface may actually be movement beneath the surface.

Isaiah reminds us that those who wait on the Lord receive renewed strength.

This kind of waiting is not passive. It is the quiet decision to trust God even when the outcome is not yet visible. It is choosing faith over frustration and trust over fear.

During the waiting, God is doing more than preparing the situation.

He is also preparing you.

Faith grows deeper. Patience becomes stronger. Trust begins to rest not in immediate results but in the character of God.

Waiting may feel slow, but it is never wasted.

God is working in ways that will become visible in time.

Reflection

Is there something in your life that you are currently waiting on God to move in?

How might remembering that God is still working help you remain patient and hopeful during this season?

Extended Insight

Isaiah 40 speaks to people who were weary from long seasons of difficulty. The promise of renewed strength was given to those who continued to place their hope in the Lord even while circumstances had not yet changed.

The phrase wait upon the Lord carries the meaning of hopeful expectation. It is not resignation but trust that God is still active even when His work is not immediately visible.

Throughout Scripture, waiting often becomes the place where faith is strengthened. Abraham waited for the promise of a son. David waited before becoming king. The disciples waited for the coming of the Holy Spirit.

In each case, God was working long before the outcome appeared.

Prayer

Father, help me trust You in the waiting.

When I feel impatient or discouraged, remind me that You are still working even when I cannot see it. Strengthen my faith so that I can wait with hope rather than fear.

Teach me to trust Your timing and believe that You are preparing what is best for my life.

Amen.
