God Is Not Ashamed of Your Story

Scripture
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”Hebrews 4:15–16 KJV

Devotion

Many people carry a quiet fear that their past has made them unacceptable to God. They remember their mistakes, their failures, and the moments they wish they could erase. Over time those memories begin to shape how they approach God.

Instead of drawing near, they hesitate.

Shame often convinces the heart that God must be disappointed or distant. It whispers that God prefers people who have a cleaner story, a stronger record, or fewer regrets.

But Scripture reveals something very different about the heart of God.

Jesus understands the weakness of the human condition. He entered the brokenness of this world and experienced the full weight of human struggle. Because of this, He does not stand far away from those who are hurting or ashamed.

He invites them closer.

Hebrews tells believers to come boldly to the throne of grace. This invitation is not based on having a perfect history. It is based on the mercy of God.

Your story may contain wounds, mistakes, and difficult chapters. But none of those things cause God to turn away. His grace meets people exactly where they are and begins writing redemption into the places that once held shame.

Reflection

Are there parts of your story that make you hesitant to draw close to God?

What might change if you believed that God sees your story and still invites you into His presence?

Extended Insight

The book of Hebrews presents Jesus as the compassionate high priest who understands the human experience. Unlike earthly systems that often emphasized distance between God and people, Jesus opened the way for believers to approach God with confidence.

This confidence does not come from personal perfection.

It comes from the mercy of God.

Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly chose people with complicated stories. David had a history of failure. Peter denied Jesus. Paul once persecuted the church. Yet God did not reject them. Instead, He redeemed their lives and used their stories as testimony of His grace.

The same grace remains available today.

Prayer

Father, You know every part of my story. You see the moments I am proud of and the ones I wish had never happened.

Thank You that Your grace is greater than my past. Help me release the shame that keeps me from drawing close to You.

Teach me to come boldly to Your throne of grace, trusting that Your mercy is always available. Let Your redemption continue shaping my story.

I place my life in Your hands.

Amen.
