God Is Not in a Hurry

Scripture
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” 2 Peter 3:8 KJV

Devotion

Human life often moves at a fast pace.

People hurry through decisions, rush through seasons, and feel pressure to accomplish more in less time. When something important takes longer than expected, frustration begins to grow.

It can even lead to questions about God.

Why has this taken so long?

Why has the answer not come yet?

Why does it feel like nothing is moving forward?

But Scripture reminds us that God does not operate within the same sense of urgency that people do. His understanding of time is different from ours. What feels long to us is not long to Him.

God is not rushing the story He is writing in your life.

He works with patience and wisdom, allowing circumstances, growth, and preparation to unfold at the right moment. The seasons that feel slow are often the places where deeper transformation is taking place.

Roots grow before fruit appears.

God sees the outcome long before we do, and His timing reflects a wisdom far greater than human schedules. The delay we feel may actually be protection, preparation, or guidance toward something better than what we expected.

The pace of God’s work is never careless.

It is intentional.

Reflection

Is there an area of your life where you feel frustrated by how slowly things seem to be unfolding?

How might your perspective change if you trusted that God’s timing is guided by wisdom rather than urgency?

Extended Insight

Peter wrote these words to remind believers that God’s promises are never forgotten even when fulfillment seems delayed. What people sometimes interpret as slowness is actually patience.

God’s perspective of time is not limited by human expectations. This allows Him to work in ways that prepare both circumstances and hearts before the next step appears.

Throughout Scripture, God’s plans often unfold over long periods. Abraham waited years for the promised son. David waited before becoming king. The early church waited for the spread of the gospel across the world.

God’s pace is deliberate because His purposes are eternal.

Prayer

Father, help me trust Your timing.

When I feel impatient or discouraged by how slowly things seem to move, remind me that You are never rushed or uncertain. Teach me to rest in the wisdom of Your timing.

Help me trust that You are working even in the waiting.

Amen.
