God Is Teaching You to Walk

Scripture
“I have taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.”Hosea 11:3 KJV

Devotion

Spiritual growth is often slower than we expect. Many people assume that once they begin following God, everything should change quickly. They expect maturity to appear immediately and struggles to disappear overnight.

But God often works differently.

He teaches His people the way a loving parent teaches a child to walk.

In Hosea, God describes Himself guiding His people step by step, taking them by the arms as they learned to move forward. The image is deeply personal. It reveals patience, care, and close involvement. God was not standing at a distance expecting perfection. He was actively helping them learn.

This is how God often works in the life of a believer.

There are seasons when faith feels unsteady. We stumble. We hesitate. Sometimes we fall back into patterns we thought we had already overcome. Yet God does not abandon the process. Instead, He continues guiding, correcting, strengthening, and lifting us again.

The journey of faith is not about flawless steps.

It is about learning to walk with God.

Reflection

Are there areas of your life where you feel discouraged about your spiritual progress?

What might change if you viewed those moments as part of God’s patient teaching rather than personal failure?

Extended Insight

Hosea 11 reveals the tender heart of God toward His people. Instead of describing Himself primarily as a ruler giving commands, God uses the language of a parent caring for a child.

This imagery reminds believers that spiritual formation is relational. God does not simply give instructions and wait to see whether we succeed. He actively guides, teaches, and strengthens those who walk with Him.

Throughout Scripture, God’s patience with His people becomes clear. Their journey included mistakes, misunderstandings, and seasons of struggle. Yet God continued working within them.

Spiritual growth is often gradual because God is forming character, not merely correcting behavior.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the patience You show as You guide my life. There are times when I feel unsteady in my faith and frustrated with my own progress.

Help me remember that You are teaching me to walk with You. When I stumble, remind me that Your hand is still guiding me.

Strengthen my heart to keep moving forward. Let each step draw me closer to You as I learn to walk in the life You have prepared.

I trust the work You are doing in me.

Amen.
