God Writes New Beginnings

Scripture
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?”Isaiah 43:18–19 KJV

Devotion

There are times when people feel trapped by their past. Old failures, old wounds, and old stories can begin to feel like permanent chapters that cannot be rewritten. The mind keeps returning to what once happened, and it becomes difficult to imagine that life with God could move in a different direction.

But God is not limited by the chapters that have already been written.

Through the prophet Isaiah, God spoke to His people during a time when they were surrounded by the consequences of past events. Yet in the middle of their discouragement, God announced something powerful.

“I will do a new thing.”

This statement reveals the heart of God. He is not only the God of redemption but also the God of new beginnings. What once seemed finished can become the place where something new begins to grow.

God is able to bring fresh life into places that once felt dry or hopeless. His work is not limited to restoring what was lost. He also creates new paths forward.

Reflection

Are there parts of your past that make it difficult for you to imagine a new beginning?

What might change if you believed that God is still writing new chapters in your life?

Extended Insight

Isaiah 43 reminds the people of Israel of God’s past faithfulness while also pointing them toward future hope. God had already delivered them before, yet He was not finished working in their story.

The phrase “a new thing” reflects the creative nature of God’s redemption. God does not merely repair what has been broken. He often brings about something entirely new through His work.

This truth appears throughout Scripture. Joseph’s suffering became the path to leadership. Ruth’s loss became the beginning of a new family line. Peter’s failure became the foundation for future ministry.

The God of Scripture continues to write new beginnings in the lives of those who trust Him.

Prayer

Father, there are times when my past feels heavy and difficult to move beyond. Old memories and mistakes sometimes make it hard for me to believe that something new could begin.

Thank You for the promise that You are able to do a new thing. Your power is greater than my past and greater than any chapter that feels unfinished.

Help me trust that You are still writing my story. Give me the courage to walk forward into the new work You are creating in my life.

I place my past in Your hands and trust You to lead me into new beginnings.

Amen.
