The God Who Finishes What He Starts
Scripture
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 KJV
Devotion
Many people live with the fear of unfinished things.
Projects are started but never completed. Promises are made but never fulfilled. Relationships begin with hope but slowly fade away. Because this is such a common human experience, some people quietly assume that God might work the same way.
They worry that God will eventually give up on them.
But Scripture reveals something profoundly different about His character. Paul writes with confidence that the One who began a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. In other words, God does not abandon what He begins.
When God starts a work in a person’s life, He commits Himself to the process.
That process may take time. There may be seasons of growth, seasons of struggle, and moments when progress feels slow. But none of those things cause God to stop working.
God sees the finished picture even when we only see the unfinished parts.
He understands the transformation that is taking place inside the heart. The doubts, the lessons, the victories, and even the setbacks all become part of the process through which He shapes a life.
The God of Scripture is not a God who walks away from His work.
He is the God who finishes what He starts.
Reflection
Are there areas of your life where you feel unfinished or discouraged about your spiritual growth?
How might it change your perspective to trust that God is still actively working within you?
Extended Insight
Philippians 1:6 reflects Paul’s deep confidence in the faithfulness of God. The phrase “perform it” means to bring something to completion or to carry it forward until it is finished.
This promise reminds believers that spiritual growth is not sustained by human effort alone. God Himself is involved in the process. He guides, corrects, strengthens, and continues shaping the believer’s life over time.
While people often abandon projects when progress becomes difficult, God remains committed to the work of transformation within His people. The journey of faith may include challenges, but the outcome rests in the faithfulness of God.
Prayer
Father, thank You for beginning a good work in my life.
There are moments when I feel incomplete or uncertain about my growth. Yet Your Word reminds me that You are still working within me and that You will finish what You started.
Help me trust Your faithfulness even when progress feels slow. Continue shaping my heart, strengthening my faith, and guiding my life according to Your purpose.
Thank You for never abandoning the work You have begun in me.
Amen.
