Trust Is Learned Over Time

Scripture
“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”Psalm 34:8 KJV

Devotion

Trust rarely appears fully formed. It grows slowly through experience. Many people wish they could trust God instantly and completely in every situation, yet the journey of faith usually unfolds one step at a time.

Scripture invites us to “taste and see that the Lord is good.” This language suggests something personal and experiential. Trust develops as we encounter God’s faithfulness in real moments of life.

At first the heart may hesitate. Questions arise. Circumstances feel uncertain. Yet as a person continues walking with God, small moments of faithfulness begin to accumulate. Prayers are answered in unexpected ways. Guidance appears when direction seemed unclear. Strength arrives during seasons that once felt impossible to endure.

Over time these experiences shape the heart.

Trust becomes less about hoping things will work out and more about recognizing the character of the One who is leading us. We begin to understand that God’s goodness does not change even when circumstances do.

Trust is not demanded instantly. It is learned as the heart discovers, again and again, that God is faithful.

Reflection

When you look back over your life, where have you seen moments of God’s faithfulness that helped your trust grow?

How might remembering those moments strengthen your trust in the present?

Extended Insight

Psalm 34 was written by David during a time of great uncertainty. His circumstances were far from stable, yet his words reflect a deep confidence in God’s goodness.

The invitation to “taste and see” reveals that faith is not meant to remain abstract. Trust grows through lived experience with God. As believers walk with Him through different seasons, they gradually learn that His character remains consistent.

Even when life becomes difficult, the memory of God’s past faithfulness becomes a foundation for present trust.

This is why Scripture repeatedly calls believers to remember what God has done. Remembering strengthens trust and reminds the heart that God’s goodness is not temporary.

Prayer

Father, I know that trusting You is part of the journey of faith. Sometimes my trust feels strong, and other times it feels fragile.

Help me remember the ways You have already been faithful in my life. Let those moments strengthen my confidence in You.

Teach me to trust You more deeply as I continue walking with You. Shape my heart so that my faith rests in Your goodness and Your character.

I choose to trust You again today.

Amen.
