What Are You Trusting More Than God
Scripture
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”Proverbs 3:5–6 KJV
Devotion
Trust is one of the quiet forces that shapes the direction of life. Every day we place our confidence in something. Sometimes it is our plans. Sometimes it is our abilities. Sometimes it is the security we believe we have built around ourselves.
But Scripture asks a deeper question.
What are you trusting more than God?
The heart does not always notice when trust begins to shift. It can happen gradually. A person may begin depending more on their own understanding than on God’s wisdom. They may feel more secure in what they can control than in what they must place in God’s hands.
Yet Proverbs calls believers back to a different foundation.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
This kind of trust is not passive. It is the decision to place confidence in God’s character, even when circumstances are unclear. It is the willingness to acknowledge Him in every part of life and allow His wisdom to guide the path forward.
When trust returns to its proper place, the heart finds a steadiness that no human plan can provide.
Reflection
When you face uncertainty, where does your trust usually turn first?
Is there anything in your life that has quietly taken the place that belongs to trusting God?
Extended Insight
Proverbs 3:5–6 reveals the contrast between two kinds of dependence. One relies on human understanding alone. The other places confidence in the wisdom and guidance of God.
Human understanding is limited. It sees only the present moment and interprets events through incomplete knowledge. God, however, sees the full story.
This is why Scripture repeatedly calls believers to trust God rather than relying entirely on their own perspective. Trusting God does not mean ignoring wisdom or planning. It means recognizing that God’s understanding ultimately surpasses our own.
When believers acknowledge God in every area of life, they invite His guidance into decisions, relationships, and direction.
Prayer
Father, there are times when I rely too heavily on my own understanding and forget to place my full trust in You. I sometimes try to control outcomes instead of resting in Your wisdom.
Help me trust You with all my heart. Show me if there is anything I have been depending on more than I depend on You.
Teach me to acknowledge You in every part of my life and to trust that You will guide my path.
I place my confidence in You today.
Amen.
