When You’re Tired of Trying
Scripture
Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Devotion
There are seasons when effort feels endless and results feel invisible. You keep trying to do the right thing, keep trying to grow, keep trying to move forward, but progress seems slow or nonexistent. Over time that kind of exhaustion can quietly build inside you. It is not always dramatic. Sometimes it simply shows up as discouragement, fatigue, or the thought that maybe it would be easier to stop trying altogether. This verse speaks directly to that kind of moment. It acknowledges that weariness is real. Even people who are doing good work can become tired along the way. But it also reminds us that effort in the right direction is not wasted. Growth and harvest often arrive in their own season, not immediately when we expect them. When you are tired of trying, it does not necessarily mean you are failing. It may simply mean you are in the middle of a process that has not yet reached its visible outcome.
Reflection
Where in my life do I feel the most weary right now? What would it look like to take the next small step forward instead of giving up completely?
Extended Insight
Paul wrote the letter to the Galatians to encourage believers who were navigating challenges and pressures that could easily discourage them. In Galatians 6 he emphasizes perseverance in doing what is good and faithful. The phrase “in due season we shall reap” reflects the agricultural imagery common in biblical teaching. Farmers understood that planting and harvesting rarely happened at the same time. Seeds were planted long before visible results appeared. In the same way, many actions that reflect faithfulness or integrity may not show immediate outcomes. Yet over time those efforts shape character, influence others, and contribute to growth that becomes visible later. The warning in the verse is not about failing but about fainting, which refers to losing heart or giving up prematurely. The encouragement is to continue moving forward with patience and trust that faithful effort carries meaning even before the harvest is visible.
Prayer
Father, there are moments when I feel tired and discouraged from continuing to try. You know the areas of my life where the effort feels heavy right now. Give me renewed strength and patience to keep moving forward. Help me trust that the work I am doing today can still lead to growth and good fruit in the future. Amen.
