When You’re Waiting on God

Scripture
Psalm 27:14 (KJV)
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

Devotion

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of life. When you are waiting for direction, for an answer, or for something to change, time can feel painfully slow. Your mind starts asking questions like why is this taking so long or did I miss something along the way. In a world where almost everything moves quickly, waiting can feel like nothing is happening. But Scripture speaks about waiting on God in a different way. Waiting in the Bible is not passive. It is not sitting still with no purpose. Waiting is a posture of trust. It means continuing to believe that God is still working even when the outcome has not yet appeared. The verse does not simply say to wait. It also says that God strengthens the heart during the waiting. The season that feels like delay may actually be the place where courage, patience, and deeper faith are being built within you.

Reflection

What situation in my life feels like it has been waiting the longest? How might my perspective change if I saw this season as a time where God is strengthening my heart rather than simply delaying an answer?

Extended Insight

The theme of waiting appears frequently throughout the Psalms and other parts of Scripture. Waiting on the Lord reflects a posture of expectation rather than resignation. In ancient Hebrew thought, waiting often implied hopeful trust and attentiveness. It meant remaining confident that God’s timing and wisdom were reliable even when circumstances were unclear. Psalm 27 reflects David’s experience of navigating both danger and uncertainty. Instead of rushing toward his own solutions, David repeatedly returns to the idea of waiting on God. This pattern reveals an important principle about spiritual growth. Seasons of waiting often create space for reflection, preparation, and alignment with God’s purposes. While waiting can feel uncomfortable, it frequently becomes the environment where patience and courage are formed. Over time, these qualities help shape a deeper trust in God’s guidance rather than dependence on immediate answers.

Prayer

Father, waiting is not easy for me. When answers seem delayed or direction feels unclear, help me trust that You are still working. Strengthen my heart during this season and teach me patience as I continue to seek You. Help me remain confident that Your timing is wise and that You are guiding my life even when I cannot see the full picture. Amen.
