You Are Allowed to Heal Slowly
Scripture
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”Psalm 147:3 KJV
Devotion
Healing is often imagined as something that happens quickly. Many people believe that once they bring their pain to God, the wound should disappear immediately and life should move forward without difficulty.
But the reality of healing is often much more gradual.
Some wounds take time to mend. The heart needs space to process loss, disappointment, and the deep places where life has been painful. During these seasons people sometimes feel discouraged because they assume their healing should already be complete.
Yet Scripture presents a different picture of God’s work.
Psalm 147 describes God as the One who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Binding a wound is not an instant action that removes every sign of injury. It is a careful process. It involves attention, patience, and consistent care.
God’s healing often works in the same way.
He meets the heart where it is hurting. He gently restores what has been damaged. He brings truth into places where lies once lived. Over time the soul becomes stronger and peace begins to return.
Healing may move slowly, but it is still real.
Reflection
Are there areas of your life where you have been frustrated with the pace of your healing?
What might change if you allowed yourself the patience that God already offers?
Extended Insight
Throughout Scripture, God is described as a healer of the heart. His healing does not ignore pain or rush past the process of restoration. Instead, He enters the broken places and begins a work of renewal.
The language of binding wounds suggests careful attention to what has been injured. It reflects the compassion of a God who does not overlook suffering but moves toward it with mercy.
For many believers, healing unfolds through continued time in God’s presence. Prayer, reflection on Scripture, and honest conversation with God gradually restore the parts of the heart that have been wounded.
This process may take longer than expected, yet it reflects the steady faithfulness of God.
Prayer
Father, You see the places in my heart that are still healing. Sometimes I become impatient with the process and wish that the pain would disappear more quickly.
Thank You for being gentle with my wounds. Help me trust the work You are doing even when healing takes time.
Give me patience as You restore what has been broken. Let Your peace slowly fill the places that once held pain.
I place my healing in Your hands.
Amen.
