Revelation 6 – What Happens When the Seals Begin to Open

Study Content

This chapter begins with something that must stay clear in your mind. “I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals.” The Lamb. The same One who was declared worthy. The same One who prevailed. The same One who was slain and now stands. Which means what is about to unfold is not random. It is not out of control. It is being opened by Him.

And that raises a quiet question. When you see things unfold that feel unsettling, do you remember who is holding authority over what is being opened.

Then the first seal is opened, and a rider on a white horse appears, going forth conquering. Movement begins. Expansion. Advancement. But not everything that appears victorious is aligned with truth.

Which invites reflection. Are you discerning what looks successful, or are you assuming that movement always equals alignment.

Then the second seal is opened, and peace is taken from the earth. Conflict emerges. Division. Violence. And it is given to him that sits on the horse to take peace.

Which reveals something important. Even the removal of peace is not outside of permission. It is allowed. Which means nothing is slipping past God unnoticed.

And that leads to a deeper question. When peace feels absent, where are you looking to find it again.

Then the third seal is opened, and scarcity appears. A measure of wheat for a penny. Imbalance. Lack. And yet it says, “hurt not the oil and the wine.” Which shows that even in scarcity, there is still something preserved.

And that invites reflection. When resources feel limited, are you only seeing what is lacking, or are you recognizing what is still being sustained.

Then the fourth seal is opened, and death follows. Not isolated, but widespread. Authority is given over a portion of the earth to bring death through multiple means.

And again, the pattern continues. Given. Allowed. Not uncontrolled.

Which means even what feels most final is still under authority.

And that raises a quiet but heavy question. Do you trust God’s authority even in places where life feels fragile or uncertain.

Then the fifth seal is opened, and the scene shifts. Now it is not about what is happening on earth, but about those who have been slain for the word of God. They cry out, asking how long.

Which reveals something deeply human. Even in heaven, there is a cry for justice. A recognition that what has happened is not yet fully answered.

And they are given white robes and told to rest a little longer. Which shows that timing is not rushed. There is an appointed moment for everything to be completed.

And that invites reflection. Can you trust God’s timing, even when something feels unresolved.

Then the sixth seal is opened, and everything begins to shake. A great earthquake. The sun darkened. The moon like blood. Stars falling. The sky departing as a scroll. Mountains and islands moving.

What once seemed stable is no longer stable.

Which reveals something important. What people trust in, what feels permanent, can be shaken.

And then it says that kings, great men, rich men, and every person, all respond the same way. They hide. They call for the mountains to fall on them, to hide them from the face of Him that sits on the throne.

Which means when everything is revealed, status does not matter. Position does not matter. Only alignment matters.

And that raises a deep and honest question. What are you depending on right now that would not stand if everything around you was shaken.

Then it says, “For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand.”

And that question lingers. Not to create fear, but to bring clarity.

Because this chapter is not just about events unfolding. It is about revealing what is stable and what is not. What is temporary and what remains.

And the answer to that question is not found in strength, or position, or preparation.

It is found in the One who opened the seals.

And that brings everything into a final reflection. When things begin to shift, when what feels secure begins to move, are you anchored in what cannot be shaken, or are you holding onto what will not last.

Because this chapter is not just showing what will happen.

It is revealing where your foundation truly is.

Prayer

Father,
Thank You for reminding me that nothing unfolds outside of Your authority.

When things feel uncertain or shaken, help me to remember that You are still in control.

Teach me to trust You, not just when things are stable, but when everything feels like it is shifting.

Show me where I may be relying on things that cannot last, and lead me into a place where I am anchored in You.

Give me peace that does not depend on circumstances, and confidence that comes from knowing You are over all.

Let my foundation be secure in You alone.

Amen
