God Is Not Late
Scripture
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”2 Peter 3:9 KJV
Devotion
There are moments when it feels as though God has waited too long. The answer has not come. The situation has not changed. The prayer has been repeated many times and the heart begins to wonder if God has forgotten.
Waiting can easily make God’s timing feel delayed.
But Scripture reminds us that God does not measure time the way we do. What appears slow from a human perspective is often part of a much larger purpose that we cannot yet see.
God is never careless with His promises. He is never distracted by the events of life. He is never late.
The timing of God is shaped by wisdom, not urgency. He sees every detail of the story that is unfolding. He understands the right moment for doors to open, for hearts to change, and for answers to appear.
Sometimes the waiting we experience is not about delay. It is about preparation.
God may be preparing circumstances.
God may be shaping hearts.
God may even be strengthening the faith of the person who is waiting.
When the answer finally arrives, the heart often realizes that God’s timing was not late at all.
It was precise.
Reflection
Is there an area of your life where God’s timing has felt slow or delayed?
How might your perspective change if you trusted that God’s timing is always purposeful?
Extended Insight
The passage in 2 Peter addresses believers who wondered why certain promises of God had not yet been fulfilled. Peter reminded them that what appears slow to human understanding is often part of God’s patient and purposeful plan.
God’s timing operates within a perspective that sees the beginning, the middle, and the end all at once.
Throughout Scripture, many of God’s promises seemed delayed for long periods of time. Abraham waited decades for the promise of a son. Joseph endured years of hardship before stepping into the purpose God had prepared. David waited many years between his anointing and his kingship.
In every case, God’s timing was not late.
It was exactly right.
Prayer
Father, there are times when waiting causes my heart to question Your timing. I sometimes feel as though the answers I long for are arriving too slowly.
Help me trust that You are never late. Remind me that Your wisdom sees what I cannot yet understand.
Give me patience while You prepare what is ahead. Strengthen my faith so that I can rest in the certainty of Your promises.
I trust Your timing today.
Amen.
