God Is Present in the Ordinary Moments

Scripture
“And, behold, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:20 KJV

Devotion

Many people expect to encounter God only in extraordinary moments.

They imagine that God is most present during powerful spiritual experiences, dramatic answers to prayer, or moments that feel unmistakably miraculous. Because of this, the quiet, ordinary parts of life can sometimes feel spiritually empty.

But God is not limited to extraordinary moments.

Jesus promised His followers something simple and profound. He said that He would be with them always. Not only in moments of worship, not only in times of crisis, but in every moment of life.

This means God is present in the ordinary.

He is present in the quiet morning before the day begins. He is present in the small decisions that shape your character. He is present in the conversations, responsibilities, and routines that fill the day.

The presence of God is not reserved for dramatic moments.

It quietly surrounds the life of every believer.

Often the problem is not that God is absent. It is that we expect Him to appear only in ways that feel spectacular. When we begin to recognize His presence in everyday life, we start to see that God has been near all along.

The ordinary moments of life become sacred when we remember that God is there.

Reflection

Do you sometimes expect God to appear only in dramatic or spiritual moments?

What might change if you began recognizing His presence in the ordinary parts of your day?

Extended Insight

Jesus’ promise in Matthew 28:20 was given as part of the Great Commission. As His followers went into the world carrying out their mission, He assured them that His presence would remain with them continually.

The phrase “alway” means at all times. It suggests a constant presence rather than occasional appearances.

This truth reminds believers that their relationship with God is not confined to specific spiritual settings. God’s presence accompanies them through the routines of daily life.

Learning to recognize God in ordinary moments deepens spiritual awareness and transforms everyday experiences into opportunities for fellowship with Him.

Prayer

Father, help me become more aware of Your presence in the ordinary moments of my life.

Remind me that You are not only present in extraordinary experiences but in the quiet parts of each day. Teach me to walk with You in my routines, my responsibilities, and my simple moments.

Thank You for being with me always.

Amen.
