God Is Working in the Normal Days
Scripture
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 KJV
Devotion
Many people assume that God is only working during the big moments of life.
We tend to notice Him when something dramatic happens. A clear answer to prayer. A sudden breakthrough. A moment that feels undeniably spiritual. Those moments are easy to recognize.
But most of life does not look like that.
Most days are ordinary. They are filled with routines, responsibilities, conversations, and quiet tasks that do not seem particularly spiritual. Because of that, it can sometimes feel like nothing significant is happening.
Yet Scripture tells us something deeper.
Romans 8:28 reminds us that God is working in all things. Not just the big moments. Not just the dramatic answers. All things. That includes the slow seasons, the quiet seasons, and the ordinary days that seem uneventful.
God often does His most important work quietly.
He shapes character through small decisions. He strengthens faith through daily trust. He builds wisdom through experiences that seem ordinary at the time. Even when nothing feels dramatic, God is still guiding the story of your life.
The normal days are not wasted days.
They are the days where God is often doing the quiet work that prepares you for what comes next.
Reflection
Do you sometimes assume that God is only working when something dramatic happens?
What might change if you began to trust that God is also working through the ordinary days of your life?
Extended Insight
Romans 8:28 reveals a foundational truth about God’s providence. The verse does not say that every individual circumstance feels good or makes immediate sense. Instead, it declares that God works through all circumstances for the ultimate good of those who love Him.
This includes the ordinary rhythms of daily life.
Much of spiritual formation happens slowly over time. Character, wisdom, patience, and faith are rarely formed in a single dramatic moment. They grow through consistent trust in God during everyday experiences.
When believers begin to see ordinary days as part of God’s work, they learn to recognize His presence in places they once overlooked.
God is working even in the normal days.
Prayer
Father, help me trust that You are working in every part of my life, even in the ordinary days.
Open my eyes to see the quiet ways You are shaping my heart and guiding my path. Help me remain faithful in the simple moments and trust that nothing in my life is wasted in Your hands.
Thank You for working in ways I cannot always see.
Amen.
