God Meets You in the Ordinary

Scripture
“And he said, Certainly I will be with thee.” Exodus 3:12 KJV

Devotion

Many people expect God to show up only in the extraordinary moments of life.

We often imagine that His presence is reserved for the dramatic seasons, the big miracles, or the moments when something remarkable happens. Because of that, we sometimes overlook the quiet ways God moves through our ordinary days.

But Scripture tells a different story.

When God called Moses, Moses was not standing in a temple or leading a nation. He was tending sheep in the wilderness. It was an ordinary day doing ordinary work. Yet in that simple setting, God revealed Himself and spoke to Moses about the future He was preparing.

God did not wait for a dramatic moment to meet him.

He met him in the middle of his everyday life.

The truth is that most of life is lived in ordinary moments. It is found in daily responsibilities, small decisions, quiet routines, and simple conversations. If God only worked in dramatic moments, we would miss most of His presence.

But God walks with His people through the ordinary.

He is present in the quiet work, the small steps, the unnoticed moments, and the simple routines of daily life. The God of Scripture is not distant from everyday life. He meets us right where we are.

The ordinary moments of your life are not empty.

They are places where God quietly walks beside you.

Reflection

Do you tend to look for God only in dramatic or unusual moments?

Where might God be present in the ordinary parts of your life right now?

Extended Insight

The story of Moses in Exodus reminds us that God often reveals His purposes during ordinary seasons. Moses had spent years living a quiet life in the wilderness before the burning bush moment occurred.

Those years were not wasted.

They were preparation.

Throughout Scripture, God frequently meets people during the normal rhythms of life. Shepherds were tending flocks when angels appeared. Fishermen were working their nets when Jesus called them. God’s presence is not limited to special locations or extraordinary events.

His presence fills everyday life.

Recognizing this truth helps us become more aware of the ways God is working quietly around us.

Prayer

Father, help me recognize Your presence in the ordinary moments of my life.

Teach me to see that You walk with me through everyday responsibilities, routines, and quiet seasons. Open my eyes to the ways You are working even when life seems simple.

Thank You for being present with me in every part of my day.

Amen.
