God Still Wants You Near

Scripture
“But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.”Ephesians 2:13 KJV

Devotion

There are moments when people begin to believe that God prefers distance. After seasons of struggle, failure, or spiritual dryness, the heart can quietly assume that God would rather keep His space.

This thought often grows slowly. It appears in subtle ways. Prayer feels hesitant. Worship feels awkward. The idea of drawing near to God can even feel uncomfortable.

Yet Scripture reveals something entirely different about the heart of God.

Through Christ, those who were once far away have been brought near.

God did not design redemption to keep people at a distance. The work of Christ was meant to restore closeness. The cross removed the barriers that once separated humanity from God so that relationship could be restored.

This means that God’s desire is not distance but nearness.

Even when a believer feels spiritually dry or uncertain, God’s invitation remains the same. He still welcomes closeness. He still desires relationship. He still draws people toward Himself.

Reflection

Have there been times when you felt hesitant to draw near to God?

How does the truth that Christ has brought you near change the way you approach Him?

Extended Insight

The message of Ephesians highlights the reconciling work of Christ. Before redemption, humanity stood separated from God because of sin. The distance was not merely emotional or spiritual but relational.

The blood of Christ changed that reality.

Through the cross, believers are not merely forgiven. They are welcomed into relationship with God. This is why the New Testament repeatedly emphasizes access to God through Christ.

The gospel is not only about removing guilt. It is about restoring fellowship.

Understanding this truth reshapes how believers approach God. Instead of assuming distance, they can approach Him with confidence, knowing that the work of Christ has already opened the way.

Prayer

Father, there are times when I feel hesitant to draw near to You, especially when I am aware of my weaknesses and failures.

Thank You for reminding me that through Christ I have been brought near. The work of the cross has opened the way for me to come into Your presence.

Help me trust that You still desire closeness with me. Teach my heart to approach You with confidence, knowing that Your grace has already made room for me.

Let my life grow deeper in relationship with You each day.

Amen.
