Grace Is Not a One Time Event
Scripture
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”Hebrews 4:16 KJV
Devotion
Many people think of grace as something that happened once. They remember the moment they first believed, the moment they first understood forgiveness, the moment they first realized that God had rescued them through Christ.
But grace was never meant to be a single moment in the past.
Grace is the atmosphere of the believer’s life.
The writer of Hebrews does not describe grace as something we once received long ago. Instead, we are invited to come again and again to the throne of grace. Each time we come, we receive mercy and find grace for the moment we are living in.
This means grace is not limited to the beginning of faith. Grace carries us through the entire journey. It meets us in weakness, guides us through growth, and sustains us when life becomes difficult.
God never designed grace to be a one time event. It is the steady provision that supports every step of the walk with Him.
Reflection
Do you sometimes think of grace only as the moment you first came to faith?
How might your daily life change if you began to see grace as something God continues to provide every day?
Extended Insight
The message of Hebrews emphasizes the ongoing work of Christ as our High Priest. Because Jesus has opened the way into God’s presence, believers are invited to approach God regularly and confidently.
The throne of grace represents continuous access to God’s help.
In the Old Testament, access to God’s presence was limited and carefully structured. But through Christ, believers now have direct access to the mercy and grace of God at all times.
This truth reminds us that the Christian life is not sustained by personal strength. It is sustained by ongoing grace.
Grace forgives. Grace strengthens. Grace teaches. Grace restores.
The same grace that began your journey with God continues to sustain you today.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the grace that first brought me into relationship with You. I recognize that my life with You began because of mercy I could never earn.
Help me remember that grace is not only for the beginning of my faith but for every step of the journey. When I feel weak, remind me to come boldly to the throne of grace.
Thank You for the mercy and help that You continue to provide. Let my life rest in the grace that sustains me each day.
Amen.
