Letting God Touch the Heart
Scripture
“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.”Psalm 62:8 KJV
Devotion
The heart is often the most guarded place in a person’s life. People learn to protect it carefully, especially after experiencing disappointment, betrayal, or loss. Over time those protective walls can become so strong that even God feels kept at a distance.
It is not that God is unwilling to draw near.
Sometimes the heart simply struggles to let Him in.
Psalm 62 invites believers to pour out their hearts before God. This kind of openness requires honesty. It means bringing fears, frustrations, questions, and pain into His presence without hiding behind carefully chosen words.
God does not ask for a perfected heart before we come to Him. He invites the real heart, the one that carries both faith and struggle.
When the heart opens honestly before God, something begins to change. His presence brings comfort where there was anxiety. His truth speaks into places that were filled with confusion. Slowly the heart becomes softer, freer, and more able to receive His healing.
Letting God touch the heart is not weakness.
It is the beginning of restoration.
Reflection
Are there areas of your heart that you have been hesitant to bring honestly before God?
What might change if you allowed yourself to speak openly with Him about those places?
Extended Insight
Throughout the Psalms, believers are encouraged to bring their full emotions before God. The writers expressed joy, fear, anger, sorrow, and hope without pretending that their hearts were always steady.
This openness reveals an important truth about the relationship God desires with His people. He does not expect them to approach Him with a carefully edited version of their heart.
He invites authenticity.
Pouring out the heart before God allows His presence to enter the places that have been hidden or protected. As believers become honest with God, the Spirit begins gently reshaping the inner life.
This process allows the heart to experience the refuge and restoration God provides.
Prayer
Father, You know the places in my heart that I sometimes try to guard or hide. There are thoughts, fears, and hurts that I have struggled to bring fully into Your presence.
Help me trust You enough to pour out my heart honestly before You. Teach me that You are a safe refuge for every part of my life.
Let Your presence reach the places that need healing and restoration. Soften my heart so that I can receive what You want to do within me.
I open my heart to You today.
Amen.
