Living Like Eternity Is Real
Scripture
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2 KJV
Devotion
It is easy to live as though this world is all there is. The daily routines of life, the pressures of responsibility, and the constant noise of culture can slowly draw the heart into a narrow view of reality. When that happens, eternity fades from view and the temporary begins to feel ultimate. Yet Scripture continually calls believers to remember that this life is not the final chapter. Paul urged believers to set their minds and hearts on things above. This does not mean ignoring the responsibilities of daily life. It means living with the awareness that our lives are part of a much larger story. When eternity becomes real to the heart, priorities begin to shift. Temporary recognition loses its power. Obedience becomes more important than comfort. Faithfulness becomes more valuable than applause. Living like eternity is real changes how we think, how we love, and how we spend our days. It reminds us that every act of faith, every step of obedience, and every quiet moment with God carries eternal significance. The believer who lives with eternity in view does not become detached from the world. Instead, they become deeply focused on what truly matters.
Reflection
What areas of your life are most influenced by temporary concerns? How might your daily choices change if you intentionally lived with eternity in view?
Extended Insight
In Colossians 3, Paul called believers to shift their focus from earthly priorities to heavenly realities. Because believers belong to Christ, their identity and future are connected to Him. Setting our minds on things above involves allowing eternal truth to shape our perspective. This perspective transforms how believers approach their time, relationships, and decisions. The early church lived with the expectation of Christ’s return and the reality of eternity before them. That awareness strengthened their faithfulness and deepened their devotion to God. Living with eternal perspective continues to shape the life of every believer who walks with Christ.
Prayer
Father, help me live with eternity in view. Teach me not to become consumed by temporary things but to remember the greater reality of Your kingdom. Guide my priorities, my choices, and my heart so that my life reflects the truth that eternity is real. Amen.
