Living Like He Could Come Today

Scripture
“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 24:44 KJV

Devotion

Jesus spoke often about being ready.

Not because He wanted His followers to live in fear, but because He wanted them to live with awareness. His return will come at a time when people are not expecting it. Life will be moving along in ordinary ways, and suddenly the moment will arrive.

That is why Jesus said to be ready.

Living like He could come today does not mean abandoning daily responsibilities. It does not mean waiting anxiously or trying to predict the future. Instead, it means living each day with a heart that is right with God.

It means walking in obedience.

It means keeping your relationship with Him real and active.

It means making choices that reflect the life you want to be living when you stand before Him.

When a person lives this way, readiness becomes a natural part of life. The heart stays close to God. The conscience stays clear. The desire to follow Him remains strong.

Living ready is not about perfection.

It is about a life that continues turning toward Christ.

If He returned today, the heart that walks with Him daily would not be caught unprepared. It would simply rise to meet the One it already loves.

Reflection

If Christ returned today, what parts of your life would you want to bring into alignment with Him?

What does living ready look like in your life right now?

Extended Insight

In Matthew 24, Jesus emphasized readiness as the proper response to the unknown timing of His return. The instruction to “be ready” points toward a life that remains spiritually attentive and faithful.

The early church lived with this expectation. They understood that Christ could return at any time, and that awareness shaped how they lived, served others, and remained devoted to God.

Readiness is not about predicting the future.

It is about living faithfully in the present.

A life that remains close to Christ is always ready for His return.

Prayer

Father, help me live with a heart that is ready for the return of Christ.

Teach me to walk faithfully with You each day. Help my life reflect obedience, love, and devotion to You.

May my heart remain prepared to meet You whenever that day comes.

Amen.
