The Door That Eventually Closes

Scripture
“And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.” Matthew 25:10 KJV

Devotion

Jesus told the parable of the ten virgins to remind His followers that there will come a moment when preparation is no longer possible. In the story, the wise virgins had oil in their lamps and were ready when the bridegroom arrived. The others delayed their preparation and found themselves unready when the moment finally came. While they went to find what they lacked, the bridegroom arrived, and the door was shut. This image is not meant to create fear but to bring clarity. The invitation of God is open now. The opportunity to know Him, to walk with Him, and to live in relationship with Him is available today. Yet Scripture reminds us that the moment of decision does not last forever. One day the waiting will end, and the door that is open today will close. The message of Jesus is not one of panic but of readiness. The wise response is to respond to God while the invitation still stands. A heart that walks with Him now does not need to fear that moment. It will simply step into the joy of the One it already knows.

Reflection

Is your relationship with God something you are living in today, or something you assume you will address later? What does readiness look like in your life right now?

Extended Insight

The parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25 emphasizes the importance of spiritual readiness. The wise virgins were prepared before the bridegroom arrived, while the others delayed their preparation. The closing of the door represents the reality that there is a moment when opportunity passes into fulfillment. Jesus used this story to call His followers to live in genuine relationship with Him rather than assuming there will always be more time. Readiness is not about perfection but about a heart that has responded to the invitation of God.

Prayer

Father, thank You that the invitation to know You is open today. Help me not to delay what matters most. Draw my heart close to You and teach me to walk with You now so that my life is ready when Christ returns. Amen.
