The God Who Understands You
Scripture
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15 KJV
Devotion
One of the deepest fears people carry is the feeling of being misunderstood.
There are moments in life when it seems like no one truly understands what you are going through. Others may try to help, but their words sometimes miss the depth of what is happening inside your heart.
But Scripture reveals something powerful about God.
He understands.
Through Jesus Christ, God stepped directly into the human experience. Jesus felt hunger, exhaustion, grief, betrayal, rejection, and suffering. He walked through the same emotional and spiritual pressures that people face today.
Because of this, the Bible tells us that our High Priest is touched by the feeling of our infirmities. In other words, Christ is not distant from human struggle. He is deeply aware of it.
When you come to God in prayer, you are not speaking to someone who is detached from your experience. You are speaking to a Savior who understands weakness, pain, temptation, and sorrow.
This changes the way we approach Him.
You do not have to explain your pain perfectly. You do not have to justify your struggles. God already sees the full story of your life and understands the weight you carry.
And instead of turning away, He invites you closer.
Reflection
Are there struggles in your life that you feel no one truly understands?
How might it change your prayer life to remember that God fully understands your heart?
Extended Insight
Hebrews emphasizes the role of Jesus as our High Priest. In the Old Testament, a priest represented the people before God. But Jesus fulfills this role perfectly because He not only represents humanity before God, He also personally experienced human life.
The phrase “touched with the feeling of our infirmities” reveals Christ’s deep compassion toward human weakness. He understands the pressures and temptations people face, yet He remained without sin.
This means believers can approach God with confidence, knowing that Christ intercedes for them with complete understanding.
The God of Scripture is not detached from human suffering. Through Christ, He entered into it.
Prayer
Father, thank You for understanding my heart.
There are moments when I feel overwhelmed or misunderstood, but Your Word reminds me that You know my struggles completely. Through Jesus, You understand the pressures and weaknesses that I experience.
Help me to come to You honestly in prayer, trusting that You see every part of my life. Give me comfort in knowing that You are compassionate and near.
Thank You for walking with me through every season.
Amen.
