The Heart That Is Prepared

Scripture
“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 24:44 KJV

Devotion

Jesus often spoke about readiness. He warned that His return would come at a time when people were not expecting it. Because of this, the focus of the Christian life is not trying to determine the exact moment He will return, but making sure the heart is prepared. Preparation does not happen in a single moment. It happens through a life that walks with God day after day. A prepared heart is a heart that remains tender toward Him. It listens when He speaks, turns quickly when correction is needed, and stays close to Him in relationship. Readiness is not about perfection. It is about connection. The wise virgins in Jesus’ parable were ready because their lamps were prepared before the bridegroom arrived. They had cultivated what was necessary long before the midnight cry was heard. In the same way, the heart that stays near to God is the heart that is prepared for His coming. When Christ returns, those who have lived in relationship with Him will not be surprised or afraid. Their hearts will already be turned toward Him.

Reflection

If Christ returned today, would your heart be at peace in His presence? Is there anything in your life that God may be inviting you to bring back into alignment with Him?

Extended Insight

In Matthew 24 and 25, Jesus repeatedly emphasized the importance of readiness. The teachings about watchfulness, the faithful servant, and the wise virgins all point to the same principle. Preparation for Christ’s return takes place through a life that walks closely with God. This preparation is not about outward appearances but about the condition of the heart. A heart that seeks God, responds to His voice, and remains faithful in daily life is a heart that is prepared when the Son of Man returns.

Prayer

Father, prepare my heart to be ready for You. Help me remain close to You each day so that my life reflects a true relationship with You. Teach me to walk in obedience, humility, and faith so that whenever Christ returns, my heart will be prepared to meet Him. Amen.
