The Joy of His Coming
Scripture
“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:8 KJV
Devotion
For many believers, the return of Christ has sometimes been spoken about with fear. Yet the Bible describes His coming as something that brings joy to the hearts of those who love Him. Paul wrote that a crown of righteousness is prepared for those who love His appearing. In other words, the people who know Christ do not dread His return. They long for it. The coming of Jesus is the moment when the long journey of faith reaches its destination. It is the day when the waiting ends, the struggles of this life are finished, and the presence of the Lord is fully revealed. Every faithful step, every quiet prayer, and every moment of trusting God through difficult seasons will find its fulfillment in that day. The joy of His coming comes from relationship. When you love someone, the thought of seeing them again fills your heart with anticipation. In the same way, believers look forward to the day when they will see their Savior face to face. The return of Christ is not the end of the story. It is the beginning of the fullness of life in His kingdom.
Reflection
When you think about the return of Christ, does your heart feel hope and joy? What helps you keep that anticipation alive in your daily walk with God?
Extended Insight
In 2 Timothy 4, Paul was nearing the end of his life. Yet his words were filled with confidence and hope. He spoke about the reward that awaited not only him but everyone who loves the appearing of Christ. This phrase reveals the heart posture of believers who live with expectation and affection for their Savior. The hope of Christ’s return strengthens endurance, encourages faithfulness, and fills the Christian life with joyful anticipation rather than fear.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the promise that Christ will come again. Help my heart love the thought of His appearing. Fill me with hope and joy as I wait for the day when I will see my Savior face to face. Teach me to live faithfully and expectantly until that day arrives. Amen.
