The Presence of God in Simple Moments
Scripture
“The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” Psalms 145:18 KJV
Devotion
It is easy to think that the presence of God only shows up in powerful or dramatic moments.
Many people imagine that encountering God must involve something extraordinary. Because of that, the quiet moments of life can feel spiritually empty or unimportant.
But Scripture tells us something very different.
“The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him.” God’s nearness is not limited to special events or spiritual highs. His presence is available whenever the heart turns toward Him.
That means God can be present in the simplest parts of your day.
He is present when you whisper a short prayer while working. When you pause for a moment of gratitude. When you quietly ask for wisdom before making a decision. When your heart turns toward Him in the middle of an ordinary moment.
God does not wait for life to become dramatic before drawing near.
He is already close.
The simple moments of life are not spiritually empty spaces. They are often the very places where God’s presence gently meets us.
Reflection
Do you tend to look for God only in big or dramatic experiences?
Where might you begin to notice His presence in the simple moments of your day?
Extended Insight
Psalm 145 celebrates the closeness and compassion of God toward those who seek Him. The phrase “The Lord is nigh” emphasizes that God’s presence is not distant from those who call upon Him sincerely.
This truth reminds believers that spiritual connection with God is not limited by location, circumstance, or special settings.
Throughout Scripture, people encountered God in everyday situations. Shepherds, fishermen, farmers, and ordinary workers experienced His guidance and presence in the middle of daily life.
God’s nearness is not reserved for rare moments.
It is available whenever the heart turns toward Him.
Prayer
Father, help me become aware of Your presence in the simple moments of my life.
Teach me to notice the ways You are near even during ordinary parts of my day. Help me turn my heart toward You more often and recognize that You are always close.
Thank You for being present with me in every moment.
Amen.
