The Servant Who Stayed Ready

Scripture
“Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.” Matthew 24:46 KJV

Devotion

Jesus often described readiness for His return using the image of a servant waiting for the master to come home. In the parable, the master left his household in the servant’s care. The servant was given responsibility, and the question was simple. What would he do while the master was gone? Some servants might grow careless over time. They might assume the master was not returning anytime soon. They might stop taking their responsibilities seriously. But the servant who stayed ready continued doing what the master had asked him to do. He remained faithful even during the waiting. When the master returned, that servant was found doing exactly what he had been entrusted to do. Jesus called that servant blessed. This parable shows that readiness is not about standing still and waiting. It is about living faithfully in the place God has given you. The servant who stays ready continues to walk in obedience, continues to serve others, and continues to honor God even when the return of Christ feels distant. A life that remains faithful in the ordinary responsibilities of each day is a life that is ready.

Reflection

If Christ returned today, would He find you living faithfully in the place where He has placed you? What responsibilities has God entrusted to you right now?

Extended Insight

In Matthew 24, Jesus described two different servants. One remained faithful while the master was away. The other assumed the master would delay and began living carelessly. The difference between the two servants was not what they believed about the master’s return but how they lived during the waiting. The faithful servant understood that his role was to continue serving faithfully until the master returned. This reflects the Christian life. Believers are called to remain faithful in their responsibilities, their character, and their devotion to God. Readiness is demonstrated through a life that continues to honor Christ in everyday living.

Prayer

Father, help me live like the servant who stays ready. Teach me to remain faithful in the responsibilities You have given me. Guard my heart from becoming careless or distracted during seasons of waiting. May my life reflect obedience and faithfulness as I walk with You each day. Amen.
