The Strength God Provides

Scripture
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”Isaiah 40:31 KJV

Devotion

There are seasons when personal strength begins to fade. Responsibilities feel heavy, the heart grows tired, and the energy that once carried us forward no longer feels sufficient. In these moments many people try to push harder, believing that greater effort will solve the exhaustion they feel.

But Scripture points to a different source of strength.

God does not expect His people to rely only on their own ability. Instead, He invites them to wait upon Him. Waiting upon the Lord is not passive inactivity. It is the posture of a heart that turns toward God in trust, allowing His presence to renew what has grown weary.

Isaiah describes a remarkable exchange that takes place when believers wait on God. Strength that once felt depleted begins to return. The heart gains endurance again. The soul finds energy to keep moving forward.

This strength does not come from personal determination alone.

It comes from the sustaining power of God.

When the heart depends on Him, the believer discovers that God provides strength that carries them through seasons they could never endure on their own.

Reflection

Are there areas of your life where you feel tired or stretched beyond your own strength?

What might it look like for you to rely on God’s strength instead of trying to carry everything alone?

Extended Insight

Isaiah 40 speaks to people who felt weary and discouraged. God reminded them that His power never fades and His understanding never fails. Unlike human strength, which grows weak over time, God’s strength remains constant.

When believers wait upon the Lord, they position themselves to receive the strength that comes from His presence. This renewal may not always happen instantly, but it develops as the heart learns to depend on God rather than on personal ability alone.

Through this dependence, endurance grows and faith deepens.

Prayer

Father, there are times when I feel tired and my own strength seems insufficient for what lies ahead.

Help me learn to wait upon You. Renew my strength and fill my heart with the endurance that comes from Your presence.

Teach me to rely on You rather than trying to carry every burden alone. Let Your strength sustain me through every season.

I trust that You will provide what I need today.

Amen.
