When Holiness Becomes Real

Scripture
Luke 5:8
“When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”

Acts 5:11
“And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.”

Devotion

Luke 5 is the moment Peter realizes who he is standing in front of.

The nets are full.

The miracle is undeniable.

But Peter is not celebrating.

He is undone.

Holiness has entered his boat.

He falls at Jesus’ knees, not because he is shamed, but because he sees clearly.

When glory becomes personal, pretense dies.

Now look at Acts 5.

The church is growing.

Power is flowing.

But holiness is not optional.

Ananias and Sapphira attempt to fake surrender.

And suddenly, reverence returns.

Great fear came upon the church.

Not terror.

Awareness.

The same Peter who once fell at Jesus’ knees now stands in a community where holiness is not performative.

Luke 5 reveals conviction.

Acts 5 reveals purification.

God is not interested in crowds that perform surrender.

He is forming a people who live honestly before Him.

Reflection

Is there any area of your life where you are managing appearance instead of surrendering fully?

When was the last time God’s presence humbled you?

Extended Insight

In Luke 5, Jesus fills empty nets.

In Acts 5, God empties false motives.

Miracle and purification walk together.

Peter’s confession in Luke 5 prepares him for leadership in Acts 5.

He knows what it feels like to be exposed by holiness.

That is why he does not tolerate pretending.

Holiness is not about image.

It is about integrity.

When God begins digging deeper, He exposes what we hoped would remain hidden.

Not to destroy us.

But to cleanse us.

Prayer

Father,

Let me never grow casual with Your holiness.

If there is anything in me that is false, reveal it gently and remove it completely.

I do not want to perform devotion.

I want to live it.

Give me a heart that responds like Peter,

quick to kneel,

quick to repent,

quick to follow.

Purify what needs purifying.

Deepen what needs deepening.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
