When Jesus Says, “I Know You”

Scripture
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 KJV

Devotion

One of the most comforting truths in Scripture is that Jesus does not simply know about His people. He knows them personally. He knows their hearts, their struggles, their prayers, and the quiet moments of faith that no one else sees. In John 10, Jesus described His followers as sheep who recognize the voice of their shepherd. There is relationship in that picture. The sheep know the shepherd’s voice, and the shepherd knows each one of them. When the day comes that we stand before Christ, the greatest hope of the believer is not in their achievements or religious activity. The hope is in relationship. To hear Jesus say, “I know you,” is the fulfillment of a life that walked with Him. This knowing is not based on perfection but on belonging. Those who walk with Christ learn to recognize His voice, trust His guidance, and follow Him through the ordinary days of life. The Christian life is not about proving ourselves worthy. It is about walking closely with the Shepherd who already knows us and invites us into His care.

Reflection

When you think about your relationship with Christ, does it feel like you are learning to recognize His voice and follow Him? What helps you grow in that relationship?

Extended Insight

In John 10, Jesus used the image of a shepherd and his sheep to describe the relationship between Himself and His followers. In ancient shepherding culture, sheep became familiar with the voice of their shepherd and would respond to it. Jesus used this imagery to illustrate the personal nature of faith. Believers are not anonymous followers but people who are known by the Shepherd. This relationship is marked by trust, recognition, and faithful following. The assurance that Christ knows His people brings deep comfort and security to those who belong to Him.

Prayer

Father, thank You that through Christ I can be known by You. Help me grow in my relationship with the Good Shepherd. Teach me to recognize His voice, trust His guidance, and follow Him faithfully each day. May my life reflect a heart that belongs to Him. Amen.
