Carried, Not Overlooked

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”Deuteronomy 31:8

DEVOTION:

There are seasons when you cannot see what God is doing.

Nothing dramatic is happening.

No doors are swinging open.

No confirmations are landing.

And you begin to wonder if you misheard Him.

You retrace conversations.

You question decisions.

You revisit prayers you were sure He answered.

But Scripture does not say the Lord occasionally goes before you.

It says He goes before you.

Before the meeting.

Before the diagnosis.

Before the opportunity.

Before the waiting.

Before you arrive, He is already present.

Feeling unseen does not mean you are unsupported.

Feeling uncertain does not mean you are abandoned.

There are stretches of life where God is not removing the weight —

He is strengthening the one carrying it.

And even then, you are not carrying it alone.

You are carried.

Not overlooked.

Not forgotten.

Not late.

Carried.

REFLECTION:

Where in my life have I mistaken silence for absence instead of trusting that God has already gone before me?

EXTENDED INSIGHT:

The phrase “goes before you” in Deuteronomy 31:8 carries the idea of active leadership and preparation. God is not trailing behind your circumstances trying to catch up. He precedes them.

This means your unknown is not unentered territory for Him.

Divine presence is not reactive. It is proactive.

Discouragement often comes from assuming we are navigating alone. Scripture corrects that assumption.

God does not simply accompany.

He prepares.

He positions.

He steadies.

Courage grows when we remember who is already ahead of us.

PRAYER:

Father,

When I cannot see what You are doing, steady my heart.

When the road feels uncertain, remind me that You have already walked it.

Guard me from interpreting delay as abandonment.

Guard me from interpreting silence as absence.

Teach me to trust that You go before me.

That You are present in places I have not yet stepped into.

I surrender my need to understand every detail.

I choose to believe that I am not overlooked.

I am carried.

Amen.
