Why God Lets Us Walk Through Hard Things

Scripture
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”Romans 8:28 KJV

Devotion

One of the most difficult questions people ask is why God allows hard things to happen. When life becomes painful or confusing, the heart naturally wonders what purpose could possibly exist in the middle of suffering.

It is a question that many faithful believers have asked throughout history.

Scripture does not always explain every detail of why a specific hardship occurs. But it does reveal something powerful about what God does in the middle of those experiences.

God works through them.

Romans reminds believers that God is able to work all things together for good for those who love Him. This does not mean that every hardship is good in itself. Pain, loss, and difficulty are real and often deeply challenging.

But God has the ability to bring purpose out of what once felt meaningless.

Hard seasons often shape the heart in ways comfort never could. They teach dependence on God. They deepen compassion for others. They strengthen faith that might otherwise remain shallow.

Sometimes the greatest growth in the life of a believer happens in the very seasons they would never have chosen.

Reflection

Can you look back on a difficult season and see ways that God shaped your heart through it?

How might trusting God’s purpose help you walk through your current challenges?

Extended Insight

Romans 8 speaks about the larger work God is accomplishing in the lives of His people. The promise that all things work together for good does not mean every moment will feel good or make sense immediately.

Instead it reveals the sovereignty of God.

God is able to weave even painful experiences into the larger story of redemption. What feels like chaos in the present may later become a testimony of God’s faithfulness and transformation.

Throughout Scripture, many of God’s servants experienced difficult journeys that eventually led to deeper purpose. Their stories remind believers that God’s work often unfolds over time.

Prayer

Father, there are moments when I struggle to understand why certain difficulties appear in life. Hard seasons can raise questions that I do not always know how to answer.

Help me trust that You are working even when I cannot see the full picture. Give me strength to walk through challenges with faith rather than fear.

Shape my heart through every season and bring good from what feels difficult today.

I trust that Your purpose is greater than my understanding.

Amen.
