You Are More Loved Than You Realize

Scripture
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.” 1 John 3:1 KJV

Devotion

Many people believe that God loves them in theory, but not deeply.

They understand the idea of God’s love as a concept, something that applies to humanity in general. Yet when it comes to their own life, they quietly feel as though that love must be smaller, weaker, or somehow less personal.

But Scripture tells us to behold the love of God.

John is not simply making a statement. He is inviting believers to stop and truly consider the depth of what God has done. The love of God is not distant or abstract. It is a love that calls people His children.

That means the relationship God offers is personal.

The love of God is not measured by human standards. Human love often fluctuates. It grows stronger or weaker depending on circumstances, emotions, and performance. But God’s love is not built on those things.

His love begins with His own nature.

This means God’s love toward you is not fragile. It does not shrink when you struggle or disappear when you fail. The love of God remains steady because it comes from who He is, not from what you do.

Many believers underestimate this love.

They assume God tolerates them rather than delights in them. They assume He remains distant rather than near. Yet the truth of Scripture reveals something far greater.

You are more loved than you realize.

Reflection

Do you ever struggle to believe that God’s love for you is personal and deep?

How might your relationship with Him change if you truly believed that His love is greater than you have imagined?

Extended Insight

1 John emphasizes the identity believers receive through God’s love. The phrase “sons of God” reflects a relationship of belonging and acceptance. In the culture of the early church, this language conveyed inheritance, identity, and closeness.

John’s instruction to “behold” the love of God encourages believers to reflect deeply on the reality of what God has done. The cross of Christ reveals the extent of that love, demonstrating that God pursued humanity even when humanity had turned away from Him.

Understanding this truth reshapes the way believers see themselves. Their identity becomes rooted in being loved and accepted by God rather than in external achievements or human approval.

Prayer

Father, help me understand the depth of Your love.

There are times when I struggle to believe that You love me personally and completely. Remind me that Your love is not based on my performance but on Your nature.

Teach me to live with the confidence that I am Your child and that Your love for me is steady and true.

Thank You for loving me more than I realize.

Amen.
