You Are Safer With God Than You Think
Scripture
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” Proverbs 18:10 KJV
Devotion
Many people believe in God, yet they still carry quiet fears about drawing too close to Him. Somewhere along the way they began to see God as distant, unpredictable, or easily disappointed. Instead of viewing Him as a refuge, they approach Him cautiously, unsure of how He truly feels about them.
But Scripture describes God very differently.
Proverbs tells us that the name of the Lord is a strong tower. In ancient cities, a strong tower was a place of protection when danger approached. When enemies threatened or chaos broke out, people ran toward the tower because its walls were thick, its height gave perspective, and its structure provided safety.
The verse does not say the righteous stand near the tower and observe it. It says they run into it.
This is an invitation to trust the character of God.
God is not a fragile refuge that might collapse when you bring Him your fears, your questions, or your struggles. His strength is not diminished by the storms that surround you. In fact, His strength is exactly why you can run toward Him without hesitation.
Sometimes the greatest barrier between us and the safety of God’s presence is not distance. It is misunderstanding. When people believe God is difficult to approach, they remain outside the tower instead of running inside it.
Yet the invitation of Scripture remains clear.
Run to Him.
Reflection
When you face fear, uncertainty, or pressure, where do you instinctively turn for safety?
Is there any hesitation in your heart about bringing your struggles fully to God?
Extended Insight
The phrase “the name of the Lord” in Proverbs carries deep meaning throughout Scripture. God’s name represents His character, His authority, and His covenant faithfulness.
To run into the name of the Lord means to place your trust in who God has revealed Himself to be. His name is associated with mercy, justice, compassion, and steadfast love.
The imagery of the strong tower also reminds us that safety in God does not mean the absence of difficulty. Towers were built precisely because danger existed outside the walls. What the tower provided was security within the storm.
In the same way, believers are not promised a life free from challenge. What they are promised is the presence of God as their protection and refuge.
When a person learns to run to God instead of away from Him, they begin to discover the safety that His presence provides.
Prayer
Father, sometimes I hesitate to run toward You when life becomes difficult. I confess that there are moments when fear or misunderstanding makes me feel uncertain about how close I can come to You.
But Your Word reminds me that Your name is a strong tower and that those who run to You are safe. Thank You for being a refuge that never fails.
Teach my heart to trust You more deeply. When trouble arises, help me run to Your presence instead of trying to face everything on my own.
Let me rest in the strength of who You are. Remind me that Your character is faithful, Your protection is real, and Your presence is the safest place my soul can be.
Today I run toward You with confidence.
Amen.
